LAST HOUR AT CAMP HOPE, ROAD TRIP TO BEGIN....

It's been a crazy last week as I am doing last minute packing, cleaning..etc. we are leaving in two hours for our long drive back to Denver! YAY! I'm so excited to go back to Chicago for a week and then start our new project! I also just bought ticket's to Miranda's wedding so I'll be leaving Colorado Springs on the 10th and getting ready to party it up for her on the 12, thus returning on the 13th to Colorado Springs for my true camping experience. Solar showers anyone? The last wee we have gone on two team dinners, I've had tons of Po' Boys, and really have lived it up in New Orleans since I probably wont be back here for some time! Last week I went tubing across the Causeway Bridge on a river with Kat and that was tons of fun! We were tubing on black tubes the whole day, swam around..it was great! I'll miss her tons! Too bad I don't have pics of it. It was a true Louisiana experience.

As for our project, the last few weeks Andy and I have been working on Gina street, were able to complete all the siding and paint the house. I'll say Gina was not my favorite site to work on, but it was awesome being able to lead volunteers on my own with Andy every day. I missed Kenilworth, which is where I started in St. Bernard. I also was able to complete the entire roof on Lacoste in three days. So we've been bouncing around, or course being as flexible as we can, and have all appreciated our experience and the fact that we can build a house!

10 Working days left in St. Bernard

A good website to look at that shows the exact times and flooding of Katrina: http://www.nola.com/katrina/graphics/flashflood.swf

Two more weeks left and we drive back to Denver for transition! It has flown by! Lately we have been siding the houses with different volunteers everyday. I didn't realize it, but the corps members left working in NOLA are just with themselves...they don't get to work with volunteers every day like we do. So although I was sad to leave my work at NOLA and sad I wasn't able to finish my dry-in houses I started during the Blitz week, knowing that we still get to work with volunteers everyday makes me happy. However, I can not wait until third round. New team, new place (hopefully) and new team leader! The projects I have to pick from for next round are as ranked:
1. Colorado Springs-I would be 10,000 ft. in the mountains, camping and doing environmental work
2: Invasive species in a Bay of Alabama
3. Camp Hope-Habitat (what I'm already doing)
4. Beaumont, Texas-constructing homes

So although I have loved my experiences building homes, I need a break. I really hope I get one of the first two!

Here are some pictures of where I live (Camp Hope) that my parents took when they visited two weeks ago.
